RESTARTING POSTGRES ON HAVER

To restart postgres on haver: 1. Become the postgres super user 2. Move to /d35/postgres 3. Type "more README.txt" on the command line 4. Swipe the result with your mouse. 5. Make your screen as wide as possible. 6. Paste the README.txt on the command line and press enter. You will have to do this anytime haver is shut down, since postgres does not automatically restart. To kill the postgres process (sometimes it gets hung), find the process ID number of the postmaster process by typing: ps -aef | grep 'postmaster' at the command line. Kill the resulting process ID number. To restart postgres on saheli/amigo/amici: 1. Become the postgres super-user 2. Type: /usr/bin/postmaster -i -S -D var/lib/pgsql at the command line. You will need to do this anytime these machines are shut down, since postgres does not automatically restart. To kill the postgres process (sometimes it gets hung), find the process ID number of the postmaster process by typing: ps -aef | grep 'postmaster' at the command line. Kill the resulting process ID number.
